New plane carriers have the nose facing the sky. The center bar and handle have been lightened for travel and you can get the plane racks in 4 plane or the Josh Ellison version with just 2. They are cut over-sized to allow you to customize the fit with foam weather stripping for your style of planes. These are wood only allowing you to choose your rod material (6mm or 1/4") and style of attachment for the plane racks.
